Are candles allowed?

Late last night I got word that my dad was headed to the hospital due to an infection that he got from a hand injury. I’ve been here with him ever since. We had a rough night with constant check-ins from the nurses which kept us both awake and his body not taking the antibiotics well. My poor father. This is probably the second time in his whole life that he’s had to go to the hospital. He has no idea what’s going on and I can tell that he’s extremely uncomfortable. When it comes to my health, I get a lot of my bad habits from him. When we’re hurt or sick, we turn to natural home remedies or simply ignore it and wait for it to pass. My mom was the voice of reason. She’d constantly nag us until we went in to see a doctor. With her out of his life and his new partner living on the other side of the world, he turned to us. I’m so thankful for my sister-in-law for taking him in to see another doctor. Without her support my dad would probably be at home dealing with unnecessary pain.

Later this afternoon I’ll be changing shifts with my sister-in-law since she’s taking time off work. Until then, I thought I’d share a few snapshots of the set from the day trip shoot in Stillwater. @kommienezuspadt and I gathered a bunch of our favorite pieces from home, I’m sure a few of you may recognize some of it from previous shoots and then a quick stop to a craft store for candles. Gosh, I didn’t even think twice about lighting them up once we arrived on location. Were candles even allowed? Probably not, but we could ask for forgiveness later. I went to work with the set, scattering dried petals and foliage throughout before adding the candles as a finishing touch. I needed to be careful about placement (to avoid flames), make sure wax didn’t drip on anything valuable (like the rug) and to be aware of the fire alarms when blowing them out. Thankfully, our suite was located on the first level with an outdoor patio. It’s the same door that the black cat snuck through when it came to greet us.
