As someone building a portfolio and planning for the future, today reminded me that no amount of money is worth risking your life for.
Today, a tree fell at the mining site.
And someone died.
I still can’t get it out of my mind.
One moment, people were working. Digging. Sweating. Trying to make a living.
Then suddenly, everything changed.
I Saw Him
I didn’t know him well.
But I had seen him around the site.
I saw him working. I saw the sweat on his face. He was simply doing what many of us do every day waking up, going to work, and trying to survive.
He came to work that morning expecting to return home.
He didn’t know that morning would be his last.
And that’s the part that scares me.
This wasn’t something I saw on Facebook.
It wasn’t a story from another country.
It happened close to me.
Right here, where I stand.
It Made Me Stop And Think
We spend so much of our lives planning for tomorrow.
We say:
“I’ll make money first.”
“I’ll build my house.”
“I’ll invest more.”
“I’ll achieve my goals.”
“I’ll enjoy life when everything is finally okay.”
But sometimes, life reminds us that tomorrow isn’t promised.
We work hard.
Sometimes we ignore the dangers around us because we need the money.
Sometimes we think, “It won’t happen to me.”
Until it happens to someone standing beside us.
And suddenly, the things we were worried about yesterday don’t seem so important anymore.
I’m Still Going To Build
This experience won’t make me stop dreaming.
I still want to build.
I still want to learn.
I still want to invest.
I still want to create a better future for myself and my family.
But I’ll also remember something important:
The future I’m building is only valuable if I’m alive to see it.
So I’ll try to be more careful.
I’ll respect the risks around me.
I’ll appreciate the people around me.
And I’ll be grateful for another day.
Because waking up today is already a blessing that we sometimes forget to appreciate.
Rest In Peace
I didn’t know this man well enough to tell his whole story.
But he was someone’s son.
Someone’s brother.
Someone’s friend.
Maybe someone’s father.
And today, someone is waiting for him to come home — but he won’t.
May his soul rest in peace.
And may everyone working in dangerous places make it home safely.
Sometimes it takes a tragedy close to us to remind us of something we already knew:
Life is fragile.
Don’t wait until tomorrow to appreciate today.
Have you ever experienced something that suddenly reminded you how fragile life really is?
