Hello there my fellow Steemian, hope you all doing wonderful today. Today I woke up with heavy head, sore throat and runny nose. Its been a while since I last got this troublesome sickness. I hate it when I got sick..the only thing good about it is that my appetite to eat is still there...although all the food are tasteless. Anyway life goes on..

Last nite I went to a Harvest Festival celebration at a place called Tamu Inobong, Penampang. Its beverlyjoe@beverlyjoe original kampung (village). Its been a while since the community there celebrated Harvest Festival at this place. Last was somewhere in 2013, where they held a bazaar, traditional sports and Unduk Ngadau Dazanak (Children Beauty Contest). That time celo769@celo769 joined the contest and surprisingly she won the title. My mum-in-law who is a big fan of this kind of contest was so happy.

One week ago, she informed me that the community at the same place is going to held another Harvest Festival Celebration. This is what I'm afraid of, she told me that she registered celo759@celo759 name to join the contest under 15 to 20 ages. I just sigh...

It not easy to manage your girl to join this kind of contest. It feels like being her manager, you'll have to make sure everything is perfect. Knowing me, I would never let my girl join this contest without full preparation. First things first, I asked my girl whether she's willing to join the contest and she said 'Yes..I want the money!'. Well if she got this kind of spirit then why not.

I have to prepare her traditional costume that is traditional costume from the Kadazan Penampang etnic. This traditional costume comes with 'tangkong' and 'himpogot'. Lucky for me, my mum got all this accessories.

Next, I need to book a hairstylist/saloon to style her hair. Usually the contestant for this contest need to style their hair just like a tagung (gong). Its a shape that almost looks like a UFO ship..LOL.

And finally the most important thing, she has to practise the 'Unduk Ngadau' catwalk. Lucky for me, beverlyjoe@beverlyjoe's sister was an Unduk Ngadau some twenty years ago...so I have a coach in the house. It's funny to see how they have this routine 'catwalk' where you have to walk slowly and gracefully like the Queen of England.

Up next is the Q & A sessions, I'll have to train my girl how to speak politely, gracefully but confidently. She'll also have to memorise answers for the Q & A sessions.

This contest will be a good exposure for her.. to build up confidence in front of the audience. One tips I told her is that, if she gets nervous, just imagine everybody in the audiences are naked...LOL.. That's the bad mama in me.

So, last night during the contest she did 'her thing'; walk gracefully, smile here and smile there and she make it up to semi final. Although she didn't win, I'm proud of her courage to face the audience and for God sake..she is only 13! ..too young to compete with all those experienced contestants.

I asked if she wanted to join the contest next year. She answered "maybe"... LOL.

Who is verasj?

I am shy but determined lady who's not a writer nor a blogger. I write to express myself, my thoughts and my feelings. This shy lady was never good at writing essays in school, but she loves to write as it motivates her. Steemit concept and idea of blogging, and earning at the same time gave everyone the opportunity to write on any topic they like and being appreciated. It motivates, enables one to develop, gives freedom and encourages one to improve.
