I studied Information Technology but strange thing is, I ended up working in Human Resource and Admin. As a HR person, I used to meet lot of employees/people of all ages with different kind of characters and habits. Now that I've quit my job for more than a month, it gives me time to think of all those sort of people that I met, some makes me smile and some makes me sad.
Ignorant to Rules
I used to have colleagues who work in the workshop and site. I always remind them to adhere to safety regulations, wear safety boots whenever they're at work. The company even provide Safety boots for them to wear. There's this one staff who's so stubborn who never followed the safety regulations. He never wore the safety boots at work but he does wear it whenever he goes to the mall. When we asked him why he's like that, he answered that the safety shoe is too nice to be wore at work.
Taking Leaves
I always emphasis on filling up a Leave form whenever any of the staff like to take one. They need to submit the form to me to verify before my boss can approve them. There's this one time one staff submit a funny application form. Under the column for 'Reason for Taking Leave' he put 'menyimin kubur dan kawin anak buah' (mean doing cement work on the cemetery and nephew's wedding). It reminds me of the movie Four Weddings and a Funeral.
There's also this one time, one of the staff's grandmother passed away and he had to take an emergency leaves. I almost dropped my handphone as soon as I opened the photo that he sent through Whatsapp. He sent a photo of his grandmother's coffin with the dead grandmother laying there as a proof that he's not lying!
Training
We used to conduct training for youths that came from the rural areas. There's this one time we conduct a training on the safety and health sessions. They're asked to draw the layout of a workshop that they're planning to open in the village. One group of youths drew a nice plan for their future workshop. During presentation, they informed that the workshop will be constructed near the river. We asked them if in case of emergency, where is the emergency exit door. They answered:
"We don't need it, if in case of emergency, we just jump into the river".
Funny thing is, we knew the river they were talking about is infested with crocodiles!
