Good day my Steemian friends. Today I'm going to show a DIY on how to make Scrunchy. Basically Scrunchy is fabric covered elastic hair tie used to fasten long hair.
Its been a while since I made one but since my daughter ask me to do it and my sewing machine is waiting for me to start the engine, I'll say...why not.
Okay, Scrunchy is really quick and easy to make and it's a fabulous way to use up odds and ends of fabric. It's just a long rectangle that you sew up to make a tube and pull an elastic through. I got small pieces of fabric, a leftover from a dress I made many years ago.
Supplies to DIY Hair Scrunchy
Fabric Scraps
Elastic
Safety pins for threading
Sewing materials (either for hand sewing or machine sewing)
How to Make
First cut a long rectangle from your fabric. About 2cm x 45cm. Depending on the pattern on your fabric, you may want to consider how you cute fabric.
Turn over the short ends and sew down. Fold your fabric length wise and sew 0.5cm from the edge.
Now turn your tube RIGHT side out. The easiest way to do this is to attach the safety-pin to one end and thread it back through the middle.
Secure your elastic to one end of the long tube with a safety-pin. Attach the second safety-pin to the other end of the elastic and use this to fid the elastic through the tube.
Once the elastic is secured, make sure the seam of your tube is point the same way. With a needle and thread, use a weaving motion to sew the two ends of the tube together.
Here's the lovely scrunchy. Now, you can make your own in any pattern you like. Good luck!
