Why don't you upvote my comment? Shall I upvote my comment? etc...
These are some of the questions that many of us, steemians, newcomers have asked ourself. I include myself to the newcomer even if it's already a couple of months that I'm around and I feel that I've figured out a good percentage of steemit and I'm part of some fantastic communities.
The idea of this post came a couple of days ago from this interaction in the comments of

They both have two things in common: rules and spam.
Unfortunately, the creation of rules is necessary to prevent spam. What's this spam all about? To be honest, I really would love to go deep into the whole socio-cultural phenomenon behind it, but I won't in this post, don't worry. In steemit, spam is easily spotted: poor posts, memes only and lame comments, like "I like it, Sir".
More steemit becomes popular; more spam will appear.
But popularity also brings notable people who will help to grow and strengthen steemit itself!
There are plenty of communities already, and many others will be created. Every community has a vision/mission and a value. Like body and soul, the value gives essence to the mission and vice-versa.
Understanding communities' mission is understanding how to relate, interact and benefit by the community itself, within its rules.
Communities bring a lot of value; their upvotes could easily give you an excellent daily payout, that's why their mission is so critical, they can REALLY MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN!
Rewarding creative commons artists, open source contributors or entrepreneurs, etc...it's just amazing, can you perceive the potential of all of this?
We can try to re-create something that has been lost with capitalism, and we can re-create it by leveraging "capitalism" itself and technological advancement.
In steemit you have all the possibility to create your path, personal or social, to do so you just need to read, understand and learn from others. All the time you invest here is the time that will be turned into value, that you will use to fuel your missions/projects.
My rules are very loose; I usually reward real commenters with upvotes to thank them for the interactions even if they sound lame or not appealing. Often, I comment back creating some discussion thread.
I support people I follow even if I don't agree with the content of their posts, but I'm driven by the effort they put, and my support is doubtless.
I don't follow back people with poor content feeds and low reputation.
I used to vote my comments, now I do it just to stack to the top in posts that I find interesting, but they have a bunch of spammy comments at the bottom.
