Underarm hair, also known as axillary hair is the hair in the underarm area. It starts to appear at the beginning of puberty, with growth usually completed by the end of the teenage years or onset of adulthood.
Though science and biology acknowledged that armpit hair as well as pubic hair is one the secondary sexual characters observed during puberty, it is believed that the underarm musky smelling hair exists for the purpose of getting soaked in potent mate-attracting pheromones. This theory is believed as the armpit hair begins to thin out significantly starting around when people hit their fifthies, which is as indicator its all about finding a compatible mate. Also, it is believed that during puberty, the aprocine sweat glands become active and begin to secret an oily substance containing variety of proteins and the like. The concentration of this sweat gland in the armpit and pubic regions give rise to the growth of hair in these regions.

Hair in the armpit is believed to reduce friction. It naturally allow for better ventilation and gives a more prominent smell than you'd achieve without it.

REASONS WHY PEOPLE DON'T SHAVE ARMPIT HAIR:
i: Shaving armpit hair does not make your armpit cooler and does not create less sweat
ii: It gives some people manly/womanly feeling
iii: Shaving is believed to cause dark armpit
iv: Most people experience stinging feeling as the hair starts to grow back.
