A new history book is out last month, titled *Maximinus Thrax*. It is about a ruler of the Roman Empire in the 230's AD. It is an interesting story of a not so well known period of time in the Roman Empire. Maximinus was born a barbarian who rose through the ranks of the army to become Emperor. He was a giant of a man, over 7 feet tall.
The author is a historian, but he purposely made this a story to be read, not a dry collection of dates and places. He succeeded in this respect, as I enjoyed reading this book. His book sheds much light on a relatively dim period of history. If you are interested in ancient history or Roman emperors, then this book is for you.
