The Boss I'll never forget
Good day, everyone. I welcome you to another brand new week. This is my entry on the hive-naija weekly prompt. I'll be writing about the experience I had working for someone. I have worked with many people in my life, starting from when I was done with secondary school. Among all the people I worked for, one of them stood out.
His name is Roy Jacob. He is a versatile businessman. He has factories that produce bottle water and wine. But where he placed me was his house, so it could be looked after. The man's primary occupation was power biking. He had many houses, but he set one aside, strictly to accommodate his fellow Powerbikers whenever they feel like cooling off and spending the night.
I and my cousin were entrusted with this task. My boss, at that time, was a very respected person among his community and very well recognized among many political personalities. His father had a thing or two to do with politics, and this gave my boss exposure to so many great personalities in the political sector.
Aside from the political aspect, he also had connections with other well-known people across the country and outside as well. By the purpose of his power biking occupation, he was opportune to travel across other neighbouring countries and meet with different classes and calibers of people. He was considered a high-class individual.
The day my jaw dropped was when I saw a very popular Nollywood actor in his house, in the person of Sam Dede. My point of saying all these is that despite his high standard of living and his reputation, he was really humble. Compared to all the bosses I've worked for, before and after working for him, he was the most humble of them all.
One of the acts of humility he always displays towards me is how he never fails to say "thank you" to me whenever I run any errand for him. Even the slightest errand gets me a "thank you" from him. Another trait I like about him is joviality. He talks with me and my cousin like we are his friends and not employees.
I and my cousin had a very memorable moment with him on one faithful night. We were sitting at the veranda, and he began to gist with us. He was so open with us that he even told us his age. He also gave my cousin and I very valuable advice that I still keep with me up until today. We stayed up gisting for about two and a half hours before we retired for the night.
He was the first boss I've walked for in my life that never raised his voice at me. Even though there were times I messed up and even I was aware of it, he always corrected me with a low tone of his voice. Other bosses I've worked for, yelling is a very normal thing from them. But it was different with Roy Jacob, despite his status.
I won't deny the fact that he had his faults; we are all humans, and none of us are perfect. However, his good attributes overshadowed the bad ones. He was someone that I felt comfortable around whenever he arrived, even though he was my boss. He never failed to reward and appreciate the labor of my cousin and me. He was indeed the definition of a good boss.
Thank you for reading till the end. Have a wonderful week.
