With the rise of social media in recent years, we have also seen the growth of influencers, people who work by creating content accurately and intelligently directed to an audience and that has managed to amass an impressive number of followers. Being an influencer has become a job but some have other income as well.
Brazilian authorities recently arrested Lorraine Cutier Bauer Romeiro, a 19-year-old woman who had more than 60,000 followers on Instagram and typically posted photos and videos in her underwear or bikinis.
She was better known on the streets of her city as “Gatinha da Cracolandia”, a nickname that refers to São Paulo midtown where there is strong traffic of illegal substances, such as crack.
Due to the increase in crimes in the area, the Brazilian police launched an operation that they called “Operation Charons” in which they carried out several arrests, searches, and seizures of merchandise intending to hit drug traffickers.
In this operation, one of the targets was to capture this influencer, for which her residence was raided, where she resides in a neighborhood near the City of Sao Paulo. Her boyfriend Andre Luis Santos Almeida, known as “Japanese”, was also arrested in the operation. Both were put in jail along with 15 other suspects in the investigation.
During the raid, more than 400 portions of crack, cocaine, marihuana, and ecstasy were seized. Authorities also found a precision scale, a knife, an ax, and a cell phone.
The legal defense of the influencer affirms that she had only gone to the city to buy substances for personal consumption, however, the authorities indicate that they have physical evidence, a video where she is seen carrying out her trafficking activity, and finally the confession of the woman herself admitting her crimes.
