Yes, I know, everyone probably starts out writing about their weekend, if it was a good one like this, but this one’s different because uh well, I spent it with kids tugging at my hair and climbing all over me like I’m a tree and they’re monkeys 😫. That’s not really what a typical young lady would describe as a swell time yeah? It’s usually with friends, sexual partners and whoever else, (if kids are in the picture; deliberately excluding them) one would hang out with and describe their time together as swell.
Here’s how it is. I left my home state for another about two months ago in search of greener pastures, so to speak. Ok not in search of greener pastures, I just needed a break, as in, a change of scenery ‘cause really I’ve been on a break that’s lasting longer than expected. Ugh! Anyhoo, because I plan to leave soon, I decided to visit my uh cousin and his family to say goodbye for now. We ended up hanging out and boy was it an attention demanding trip.
First we stopped for some pizza and whatever else were in those boxes, and then some ice-cream, theeeen we headed to some place called Junkyard to chill. It’s a garden. On the way to everywhere, one of my cousin’s kids cried during every ride. My cousin and his wife have four kids. Two big boys, 5 and 3-year olds, one girl who’s 4, I think, and the baby, a boy, barely 7 months old. Ah Jordan?! Jordan was so restless until he was eventually breastfed, then he dozed off. If he didn't, all that would be left of me in this moment, would probably be my eyes and feet 😭. At the pizza place, Joshua, Jerusalem, Esther and I played around with Snapchat filters. It was so much fun watching them trying to get unreal hats off their little heads and tiny animals off of their foreheads,
You’re probably wondering why this is exciting for me abi? Especially if you’re one that has had your full with kids that are yours or not. Well, I almost never get to spend quality time with kids except professionally. I'm a tutor when I find the time and want to, at schools and in homes so there’s no playing per se. My siblings don’t have any kids, most of my cousins are either way older, just a bit older, my mates, or just under my age. No kids to carry, or spoil or play with. If any, they're hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of kilometres away.
Oh well, we played, they played, and we feigned crossed faces to get them not to be extreme or fight…
When we got to Junkyard, the three oldest ones wanted to have a taste of my piňa colada cocktail drink instead of their Pepsi. “We must have what aunty is having", never mind that it had some alcoholic content. I mean what do they even care? Jerusalem’s wahala was the most. Ah! He was the most skilful monkey, tugging at my branches and squeezing my stems in tight hugs and clings. I loved every bit of it, except the dangers of my wig coming off.
Thank goodness, the wig didn’t come off. I went, I saw, and I conquered! 💪🏾 phew!
I ordered a ride and left them as they drove home. Of course not before I planted kisses on them and promising to buy them stuff when next I visited. Such an adult to kids cliché huh!
It was so heart-warming that Jerusalem wouldn’t let go and Esther shouted that she’ll miss me and Josh asked with a sad face why I wouldn’t go home with them.
Just saying outloud, Enjoy life while you’re alive. Be intentional about everything and be spontaneous too. Cherish the littlest of things and hey; Live!
Over and out 😁.
Key: wahala is Pidgin English for "trouble" or "problem".
abi? in the same 'language' as above means "yeah?"
The boy in the image is Jerusalem. I know you know the image I speak of. It's the same one I've referred to below.
Images that aren't sourced are mine. It's not like there's more than one anyway. Okay fine, the image that isn't sourced is mine 🙄.
