Right from the Orphanage home, he had that feeling that they weren't taking him for love but for a specific purpose. Those items in the arctic room were gotten from different locations and they have history. The chair specifically was owned by a possessed man, who died on it. Which was unknown to his foster parents, because they bought it. That's why the Demon was able to appear, after being locked for long in the arctic room (chair).
