I am an artist so perhaps I am a bit of an expert on self-isolation. However I am going out less than usual these days; so besides building a post-apocalyptic city on my desk; I am finding other projects. One of my favorite new pastimes is making masks from recycled materials.
Both of these are made on bits of plastic; the first is newspaper medium and tissue on top of package and part of a coke bottle. The other is made of bottle and plaster with tissue for the eyes; I will make more in-depth posts when finished. It looks really cool with fairy lights behind the eyes.
I am planning to make them for various reasons, one for a contest; one I might actually make to wear outside.
During my daily video chat with my mother and brother I learned they are making masks as well for hospitals. I guess they are in a real need for masks so sewers around the country are making masks for local hospitals.
There is more information on the "Masks for Medicine" Facebook Page
The sight is full of informations and how-to's on making masks like this one
While you make art or crafts you might want some audio entertainment. There are some fun podcasts you can listen to; I like to listen to "Mysterious Universe" and various creepypastas. You can also download a lot of free old audiobooks on the LibriVox app ; great atmosphere while you are working. If you have a library card you can go on their website and check online offerings; both in audio and ebook form. I use the Libby and Hoopla apps for my library; most seem to have them.
On the lighter side; I got bored and thought I might make a Tinder profile that might get some action.
I am one of a kind; I know it.
Other things online; Sansar is an interesting place to go to virtually congregate with others. I have been fixing up my Makersplace store Watching peacefull Ziziqui and fun Mexican travel videos on youtube and exploring "Google arts and Culture".
I have also been posting on Steemit and Hive; which I am really only learning about over the past week.It seems the community that I interact with is mostly on Hive; so I will likely concentrate on this platform. The other day I posted about my trip into the mountains with my roommates.
It was really beautiful; I don't know if I will do it again soon. They say you can go on walks; but there are so many potential landmines when you go somewhere in the car; from toilets to gas pumps. I might limit my exercise to short bike rides. Anyway we had a lot of fun; strange there is so much beautiful nature an hour from LA.
Enjoy your isolation; and let me know how you are keeping busy in the comments. Are you doing ok? Are you feeling well? Have some puppies.
