Hi Freewriters,
It's Abeegail again, it's been a while since wrote any poem, so this is about love we've lost, learning how to walk back home all on your own, when you've already normalised the presence of another person.

Let's take the long way home.
How about I hold your hands
or you hold mine,
Intertwined.
As we walk off in the sunset,
We'll walk as we talk
About the time I tripped and fell
and got orange juice all over my shirt,
Or the time I stopped a stranger
and laughed in his face,
I'll talk fiercely and laugh loudly,
As we recount the all the things I did to embarrass you,
And people will stare,
Looking and wondering,
Who is this couple,
Hooting and hollering,
But I never cared,
And you never worried,
Because we felt like we were in our own world,
And we'll pass our favourite place,
A rock overlooking a river,
The gentle sounds of water flowing,
And the crisps sound of dry leaves
hitting against each other,
We'd sit on that rock and watch the sunset,
We'll talk about our hopes and dreams
to the silly TV shows,
You'd tell me jokes, that aren't really funny
but I'll laugh and laugh till my belly hurts
till you start to worry
You know I know the jokes were dry
but I laughed because I know
you love to see my smile,
And say to me "get up let's dance"
And I would start another round of laughter
that you didn't understand,
I'll say to you "are silly, where's the music"
And with a serious face
you'd guide my hands to your chest
and you'd say "the music is here"
as your heart beat against my hand
And we'll dance till it's almost dusk
to the sound of your heartbeat,
And we'll continue our journey
under the starry sky,
I'll close my eyes shut
the tightest I can get it
And I'll wish upon my first star
for this this night not to end
And you kiss my eyes open
sealing the deal,
But I didn't get my wish but that's okay.

Let's take the long way home.
You know what's funny tho,
As far as it seems is not as far as I imagined,
Because company makes the journey more worthwhile,
But now I'm walking
the path doesn't seem to end,
Sometimes I mumble
"I wish you were here"
to tell your stupid jokes
that still makes me laugh,
But my feet is aching,
my heart is longing,
My body is tired, and my soul is empty
I miss my laughter and your smitten smile,
I miss the stares we used to get,
Envious
Because we were long lost in love,
But I'm barely visible to them
and they are to me
Because all I can think about
Is the memories of you and me,
And look back all I feel is regret,
Not for the time we spent,
Or the love we share,
But for walking along this road
which hold beautiful moments,
Each step hurts not because
I've been walking for I while—
Well that too,
but because I'm transported back in time,
Time were it was just me and you,
With a destination we never want to get to,
Because if I'm walking with you
I'd never want to stop too,
But is all over,
Brought to a tragic end,
And I think this is the last time
I'll walk this path again,
It's painful to pick on wounds
I thought had healed,

I won't take the long way home,
I guess my path has changed
I won't take the long way home,
I think I still need time to heal

It's Still Abeegail✨💗
Walking endlessly,

Thank you for reading😊✨
The image is mine.
