Hello Hives,
I think one of the hardest things to learn in life is that you cannot control how people see you.
No matter how careful you are, somebody will still misunderstand you. You can be a good person and someone will call you fake. You can be quiet and they will think you are arrogant. You can work hard and still have someone say you are not doing enough.
At first, these things can really get to you.
You start asking yourself questions like, “What will people say?” or “Will they misunderstand me?” Sometimes, you even change the way you behave just because you are afraid of being judged.
But the older I get, the more I realise that trying to please everybody is a tiring game that nobody can actually win.
People will have their opinions whether you give them a reason or not.
And that's life.
Of course, this doesn't mean we should completely ignore what people say. Sometimes criticism is necessary. If someone who genuinely cares about you points out something you are doing wrong, it is worth listening. We all have things we need to improve.
But there is a difference between listening to advice and spending your whole life trying to prove yourself to people.
You don't have to explain every decision you make.
You don't have to convince everyone that you have a good heart.
You don't have to keep defending yourself to people who have already made up their minds about you.
At the end of the day, you are the one living your life.
People may talk about your choices today and forget about them tomorrow. They may laugh at your plans, question your decisions or compare your progress with someone else's. But they won't be there every time you face the struggles that come with your journey.
So why give their opinions so much power?
I'm learning to focus more on becoming the person I want to be rather than trying to become the person everyone expects me to be.
I want to make mistakes, learn from them and keep moving. I want to enjoy the little things without constantly wondering who is watching.
Life is already complicated enough.
Be respectful. Be kind. Accept correction when you need it. But don't lose yourself trying to make everyone understand you.
Some people will like you. Some won't.
Some will understand your journey. Others never will.
And that's okay.
You don't need everyone's approval to live a meaningful life.
Sometimes, happiness begins when you finally stop worrying about who is watching and simply start living.
