What is the most extreme example of poverty you have ever seen?
I lived and grew up in the remote area where all of the poverty dominate the people. Since that time, not many kids were taught both the material and spiritual value because the old people wanted their kids not be like them who have traveled this unfortunate path before them. Both the material and spiritual poverty are the essential problem in human’s life.
The material poverty is the tip of the iceberg for people, this causes a lot of troubles and rules their actionsin the daily life. Most of the poor obviously have a desire to earn barely enough to keep the wolf from the door at least day after day. For them, the poverty of material is the main worry on Earth.
In the opposite, the poverty of spiritual hidden iceberg that is quite hard for people to realize that. With a miserable soul, the tedious and emotionless conditions lead people to the blank life. They do not care about what happens around them, this also leads to the blank look about themselves. From that, they mislay the creativeness which gives more pleasures in life, do not know how to make their life be better and full of colors.
In my opinion, what I am afraid of is the shortage of mind and soul. I have witnessed a family tragedy from my neighbor since I was young. That was a poor- large family get together, her parents did not have an academic background, they just worked for other to earn their living day by day. Because of the lack of education in their youth, they did not have any idea or encouragement about how to escape from poverty of financial and get a better life, they blamed fate and karma for their starvation. Therefore, they brough up their children following their mindset at that time. One of their kids is my childhood friend, we learned in the same school. Till she was 18 years old, her parent decided to give her in marriage to the wealthy. They thought once their daughter get married with the rich, they will obtain benefits from it.
She may had a lot opportunities to refuse his parent’s wish but you know, she could not do that because there were a lot of fears inside her, she could not fight for herself to get freedom or get a wished life. On her wedding day, she cried a lot, because her husband was not the one that she loves and who knows how her life afterward is!
The poverty of mindset looks lightly outside but it cause a lot of consequences inside heavily. I feel myself is very lucky though I did not was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I have great parent who leaded me to the bright side, encouraged me keep learning and experienced what I have done.
