The Second Strangest Secret- Positivity Over Scarcity
Earl Nightingale said in his famous audio recording that a man is the sum of his thoughts. We make our reality, and the reason so many people failed it achieve their dreams was their mindset.
The strangest secret is that a man is what he thinks- he can steer his life towards a goal by fixating on a topic and then executing it. The strangest secret is that a man is what he thinks. All day long, whether we know it or not, we make our own destiny. If we are negative, slothful, dishonest or scheming, we make a negative future full of scarcity. If we focus on a concrete goal with positive zest, we will make progress towards that goal. The positive mindset we adopt is the engine of "The Secret".

The movie The Secret, which debuted in 2008 was focused on the Law of Attraction, which is similar to Nightingale's thesis. The Law of Attraction is a fundamental rule in life- we must positively focus on a goal and bend our minds to it's acquisition in a positive frame of mind to acquire it. In the movie, "The Universe" provides the payout because we have seen ourselves with the item or ideal we wish to acquire. It is important to understand the difference between thoughts and feelings. Feelings are unintentional and can be animalistic. We feel we should have an item or experience because others have it, but do we think about why we need it? Have you considered the difference between a want and a heartfelt desire for something based on a true assessment of need?
The secret to attracting what you want in your life is intentionality. If we want something, we have to think about a strategic way to attain it. Being intentional means avoiding autopilot-mode in our lives. We need to take in every breath and every sight. How are our thoughts focused on our goals? It's not just fluff, it takes work- what trainings will I need? What do I need to read? Who can I take with to learn more? Thoughts must translate into actions.

Is there a second secret? In actuality, there are millions of secrets and each aspect of life or industry has its own code. Cracking that code is want leads to success. In the corporate world, the secret can be networking, professionalism and technical skills can translate to success. In other venturers in life, there are learned processes that are gatekeepers or secrets in their own right. Finding the requirements to the baseline of performance and success in life's arenas are key, and then comes the implementation of positive thinking found in "The Secret".
The first secret applies to all aspects of our lives. We cannot succeed unless we focus on a goal and use our brains to build a plan or strategy to thrive. Abundance is the mindset we need to adopt to thrive. When we have a mindset of scarcity, we focus myopically on survival only, and we find it hard to dream. Long-term strategic thinking suffers as the day-to-day takes hold and the feeling of suffocation takes hold over us.
Past scars make our attempts to remain positive in the face of adversity more difficult. When we face issues, we need to admit this and look at the issue with a renewed positive perspective. When we were young, the world appeared more conquerable and mountainous problems were like hills. Break the issue down into parts and focus on what you can influence. Who can you call for help? What can you do to move the needle even a tiny distance? Life, like football is a game of inches.
Implementing "The Secret"
Implementing the Secret, both of them, takes a leap of faith. Thriving in a world filled with negative media and press, late bills, missed payments and injuries to our pride and person makes thinking about acquiring our true dreams difficult. We need to slow down and abandon scarcity. Fear and scarcity will not help us. It's ok to be concerned about something or take an assessment of harm, but it's not helpful to be overtaken by fear or scarcity. Fear is like greed, both end up negatively impacting us in ways we might not expect.
The Secret I have come to utilize is positive thinking. There is no luck, simply opportunity. If we focus on the past and how life has "shortchanged" us, opportunities will pass us by. If we have a jaundiced view of the world, we will miss out on its splendor. We need to be realistic about the steps it takes to make our dreams become reality, but a positive spin helps us. Strategy requires some headroom, so take the time to banish scarcity from your worldview and embrace abundance. From scarcity come squalor.
Take time today to look at what you have achieved, and where you want to be. Our thoughts dictate our reality, and that reality may come years from now, but we should enjoy the journey and accept the challenge and opportunity. Embrace life's challenges with a positive mindset and you will succeed.
