When you think of Garfield you probably think of lazy, eating food, etc. For me, I do not think of action games, racing, etc but apparently, I do not think like a game developer. Everyone’s favorite lasagna eating orange cat is starring in an upcoming later in 2026 for modern platforms.
At Least They Got Some Tropes Right
This upcoming Garfield game is by Microids. A company I have given more than a little hell over delays for their Operation Wolf Returns – First Mission a couple years ago. While that game eventually did release and it was what fans expected, it was still fun to poke at them for being so late.
With Garfield, it would work if they have to delay this game. It is part of the character – being lazy. Do I want them to delay it? Of course not.
The subtitle, Escape from Monday, is a great play on the idea of the character himself. Well, as long as you are not considering his gaming outings there, releases where he is quite active.
Continuing the trope fun is the fact that Garfield Escape from Mondy is a dream, a nightmare. This is an interesting way to explain away Garfields sudden interest in physical activity that works. Unlike a specific sequel to Super Mario Bros, we know ahead of time what is creating this game world.
3D Collectathon
Garfield Escape from Monday is a 3D action-adventure platform game in the style of Mario 64. You run around, collect things and advance through the level looking for an exit. There are three worlds with over 40 levels total to traverse- each with diverse enemies and of course copious amounts of lasagna.
Along the way you can collect items that let you decorate Jon’s house making it more livable. An interesting touch.
Over the years we have seen Garfield in a Sega Genesis game (eBay affiliate link), kart racing ( eBayaffiliate link) and a Match 3 puzzle and even a restaurant was an endeavor.
