The Trabant, affectionately known as the “Trabbi”, is an iconic vehicle that was produced in the GDR (German Democratic Republic). Known for its simple design and characteristic body made of Duroplast, a plastic material, the Trabant symbolized the automotive spirit of the Eastern Bloc. Despite its modest design and limited technical features, the Trabant gained cult status, especially after the reunification of Germany, when it became a symbol of nostalgia and historical heritage. With its unmistakable two-stroke engine and typical sound, the Trabbi remains an unforgettable part of automotive history. During my photo tour along the Oberbaum Bridge, I was lucky enough to photograph a well-preserved Trabbi, which is being used for tourist city tours now.
Der Trabant, liebevoll "Trabbi" genannt, ist ein ikonisches Fahrzeug, das in der DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik) produziert wurde. Bekannt für seine einfache Bauweise und charakteristische Karosserie aus Duroplast, einem Kunststoffmaterial, symbolisierte der Trabant den Automobilgeist des Ostblocks. Trotz seines bescheidenen Designs und der begrenzten technischen Ausstattung gewann der Trabant Kultstatus, insbesondere nach der Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands, als er zu einem Symbol der Nostalgie und des historischen Erbes wurde. Mit seinem unverwechselbaren Zweitaktmotor und dem typischen Geräusch bleibt der Trabbi ein unvergessener Teil der Automobilgeschichte. Während meiner Foto-Tour entlang der Oberbaum-Brücke, hatte ich das Glück, ein gut erhaltenes Exemplar, das für touristische Stadtrundfahrten genutzt wird, zu fotografieren.
