Last night, Maria & Mag (my favorite M&M) & Daniel & I had a blast seeing The Garcia Project (TGP) recreate the classic Jerry Garcia Band show on 1977/12/03 at the Binder Gymnasium, Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY.
Thanks to Daniel's gracious invitation and tickets, we got to be part of the last show in TGP's Days Between tour (days between Jerry Garcia's birth and death (Aug 1 - Aug 9)). The performance took place at the World Cafe Live, a casual venue that is also home to WXPN radio studios. Even though we didn't have to bike across states like on Wednesday night, we did not enjoy the show any less than Phish's. I was enchanted by the intimate ambiance that the band members and audience brought about. We were standing and dancing right next to lead guitarist Mik Bondy the whole time:
According to my deadhead, TGP really went out of their way to Jerrify their instrumentation, from the guitars to amplifiers, to recreate the "sounds" as closely as possible to the originals. The set includes:
Part I: I'll Take a Melody, Mystery Train, Mission in the Rain, Lonesome and a Long Way From Home, Catfish John, The Way You Do The Things You Do
Part II: Let It Rock, The Harder They Come, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Don't Let Go, Tore up over You
As if all that were not enough, TGP ended the show with FIVE encores: Ramble On Rose, Fire on the Mountain, He’s Gone, and That’s What Love Will Make You Do. It was pure magic! Of course we screamed at the top of our lungs with the epic ending.

Until later!
