Oh no, no, no! Despite the title of the post, this does not mean that my turtles grew wings and, with a farewell quack as they flew over the roof of the house, they went to winter in warmer climes. Everything is much more prosaic and their migration took exactly the same amount of time as it took to catch a turtle in a tiny garden lake and transfer it to the house in an aquarium.
Most likely, my turtles were not too happy with my decision, since it is still quite warm outside and few people will be happy exchanging a small but still quite spacious lake for an aquarium. But I don’t trust autumn weather too much and therefore decided not to risk it. A significant decrease in temperature will cause the turtles to hibernate and then what should I do with them?
I myself am not too happy about their relocation. It was much easier for me when they lived in the lake, and now part of my worries will again be changing the water in the aquarium and cleaning the filters. A very dubious entertainment, to be honest.
But nevertheless, this is a necessary measure. Yes, I know that turtles spend the winter quite successfully in lakes. But not this view and not in a lake like mine, which freezes through. So, by agreeing to take them away from the volunteers five years ago, I created a problem for myself. Although I'm not complaining, I'm already used to it.
In all other respects, these turtles are the cutest creatures. What surprised me the most was when I discovered that they recognized me! I never thought this could happen. Why not though? After all, they are one of the oldest creatures on our planet, humanity is a baby compared to them.
