A necessary introduction
First of all, my respects to all the members of this community whom I admire for the teachings they provide and the passion with which they write.
Today I want to share with you a post about something that can happen to us or perhaps has happened to us that we should avoid above all things. It turns out that many times we say things, hurt someone we love, or do something without knowing that it may be the last time we see that person alive.
This is the topic of this writing, which is a reflection so that we can try to prevent this from happening to us because it is something we have to live with for the rest of our lives.
The reason for the publication
I recently witnessed an argument between a mother and her daughter, it was something ugly, uncomfortable for me to digest and very regrettable. The worst thing for me was that I couldn't leave the place because the transport that would take me to work was passing by. It was very early in the morning and fortunately not many people witnessed that ugly spectacle, but it was enough for it to spread from word to mouth and become the comment of the day.
These two people were offended, they said the ugliest things imaginable to each other, they verbally attacked each other and wished each other the worst, as if they were two irreconcilable enemies.
The daughter left home and three days later the mother died of a heart attack. When the daughter found out, she cried uncontrollably and asked for her mother's soul and for her to be returned alive.
I recognize that I still have not been able to recover from that trauma. It has been hard to see what happened and how life granted one of the wishes that the daughter made for her mother and that I am almost sure was not what she wanted.
Have you heard things similar to that?
Has it happened to you that in an argument with a loved one you have wanted something or done something that goes against that person?
What do you think our actions should be regarding this?
The above is real, it happens more often than you think and often leaves psychological trauma and guilt that lasts a lifetime. The person who wishes harm to that loved one or takes an action against them never thinks that this may be the last time they see them alive and thinks that when the person returns they will correct the mistake or ask for forgiveness. But sometimes it is too late because we will never know when a person who is in good health can leave this world.
A personal experience
Although it has nothing to do with this, I want to share something that happened to me in 2018. It turns out that in December 2017 my mother suffered a heart attack and to save her life, a pacemaker had to be placed in her heart. I went from where I live to my family's provincial hospital and signed the authorization for the operation because none of my brothers dared to do it. My mother left that and I had to return to my job and therefore to my province.
Coincidentally, the same day my mother was discharged from the hospital and I was able to see her and be with her before boarding the bus that would bring me back to the capital of Cuba. How far he was from imagining that it would be the last time he would see her alive. She had several things planned for May 13, 2018 because that day was her birthday and Mother's Day.
Unfortunately we buried her on April 22, 2018. Throughout my life I did almost everything humanly possible for her, I consider that I was a good son and gave her what I could, but I couldn't throw her that final party.
Why do I tell something so personal and painful? Because we don't know when someone we love is going to leave this world.
For these reasons, here I leave you:
Some tips to prevent the last sentence or the last action we have with a loved one from being painful:
• When saying goodbye to that person, do it in the most loving way possible.
• Never wish her harm because you don't know if you will see her alive again.
• Don't say or do things that are the result of momentary anger or indignation because you may regret it if something negative happens to that person.
• No matter how pessimistic you may seem, you think that when you say goodbye to a loved one it will be the last time you see them, for this reason, give them your best smile and the warmest of your hugs.
• Say goodbye with an I love you, an I love you, a kiss or a hug because it may be the last thing you give to that person and it will be what they will remember forever.
A final comment
This publication may be somewhat fatalistic or not to the liking of many, but, believe me, it has been made to prevent these things from happening in the interpersonal relationships of our family environment.
When we were discussing the case that served as the basis for this publication in my workplace, some colleagues gave other examples that for ethical reasons I do not mention here, but it is something that happens more than we think and want.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading the post.
