[ESP/ENG] De pandemia, tragedias y huracanes / Of pandemics, tragedies and hurricanes
Los dos últimos años vividos en Cuba han sido muy duros. En este periodo de tiempo se han sucedido acontecimientos que han afectado la salud y la sicología de todos o casi todos los cubanos y a mí dentro de ellos.
Pandemia asesina
Siempre habrá un antes y un después de la Covid-19. Esta enfermedad convertida en pandemia mundial trastocó la vida de muchos y sus estragos obligaron al mundo a cerrar fronteras y paralizar procesos.
En mi familia sufrí la angustia de tener a dos hermanas infectadas con el virus, mi esposa y tres cuñados. Todos los casos me impactaron muchísimo porque siempre estuvo latente la posibilidad de perderlos físicamente.
En el caso de mi hermana porque estuvo trabajando todo el tiempo en el hospital, pero después que la ingresaron y dio los contactos que tuvo todos los miembros de mi familia que viven en esa casa tuvieron que ser ingresados. Que dolor tan grande sentí, cuanta incertidumbre, que impotencia.
El otro caso me tocó de cerca fue el contagio de mi esposa. No fue fácil convivir en la misma casa con cubrebocas o nasobucos; dormir separados, , velar su sueño, no dormir para estar atento porque lo peor podía suceder.
Terrible explosión.
Transcurría el 6 de mayo del 2022 y en La Habana todas las personas estaban dedicadas a sus labores cotidianas. Corría el reloj y cuando apenas faltaban 10 minutos para las 11 de la mañana se produjo una terrible explosión que sacudió a toda la provincia. Otra desgracia, para este pueblo, más dolor para la familia cubana que tuvo que llorar a 47 personas fallecidas y 52 lesionadas.
Incendio voraz
Si lo anterior no bastara un hecho nefasto vino a ensañarse con este pueblo. Casi tres meses después de la explosión en el Hotel Saratoga explotó un tanque en la Base de Supertanqueros de Petróleo en la provincia de Matanzas. Fue un hecho terrible, porque se produjo en una zona industrial y en nuestro país no teníamos antecedentes de incendios como este ni los medios requeridos, para extinguirlo.
Potente huracán
El 27 de septiembre del 2022 será recordada en muchos lugares del país, como uno de los días más duros en la historia de este país. Ese día y durante 7 horas un huracán con apenas tres letras llamado Ian afectó 4 provincias y un municipio especial.
En este tiempo se afectaron más de cien mil viviendas, se cayeron más de seis mil postes del tendido eléctrico, se afectaron cultivos, centros laborales, escuelas, hospitales y varias infraestructuras.

Una reflexión final
2021 y 2022 han sido años muy duros para el país y para mi, pues todo lo que ha pasado nos afecta y me afecta a mi también. Mucho tiempo nos llevará recuperarnos. A pesar de todo seguimos luchando por la vida y sus maravillas, a pesar de estos y otros eventos negativos que nos obligan a hacer esta CATARSIS.

A necessary introduction
The last two years in Cuba have been very hard. In this period of time, events have taken place that have affected the health and psychology of all or almost all Cubans and myself among them.
Killer pandemic
There will always be a before and an after Covid-19. This disease turned into a world pandemic disrupted the lives of many and its ravages forced the world to close borders and paralyze processes.
In my family I suffered the anguish of having two sisters infected with the virus, my wife and three brothers-in-law. All the cases had a great impact on me because the possibility of losing them physically was always latent.
In the case of my sister because she was working all the time in the hospital, but after she was admitted and gave the contacts she had, all the members of my family who live in that house had to be admitted. What a great pain I felt, how much uncertainty, how helpless.
The other case that touched me closely was my wife's infection. It was not easy to live in the same house with mouth covers or nasobuckets; sleeping separately, watching her sleep, not sleeping to be alert because the worst could happen.
Terrible explosion.
It was May 6, 2022 and in Havana everyone was going about their daily work. The clock was ticking and when it was barely 10 minutes to 11 a.m., a terrible explosion occurred that shook the whole province. Another misfortune for this town, more pain for the Cuban family that had to mourn 47 people dead and 52 injured.
Ravenous fire
If the above was not enough, a nefarious event came to rage against this town. Almost three months after the explosion at the Saratoga Hotel, a tank exploded at the Oil Supertanker Base in the province of Matanzas. It was a terrible event, because it took place in an industrial zone and in our country we had no history of fires like this one nor the means required to extinguish it.
Powerful hurricane
September 27, 2022 will be remembered in many places of the country as one of the hardest days in the history of this country. That day and during 7 hours a hurricane with only three letters called Ian affected 4 provinces and a special municipality. During this time, more than one hundred thousand homes were affected, more than six thousand electrical poles fell, crops, work centers, schools, hospitals and several infrastructures were affected.

A final reflection
2021 and 2022 have been very hard years for the country and for me, because everything that has happened affects us and affects me too. It will take us a long time to recover. In spite of everything we continue to fight for life and its wonders, in spite of these and other negative events that force us to make this CATARSIS.
