A computer mouse is a hand held pointing device that detects two-dimensional motion relative to a surface. The mouse is an extremely popular device with computer systems and other electronic devices like Digital Video Recorders (DVR), and so on. While the majority of mice are connected directly to the computers' peripheral input through a cord and the computer's main supply powers it, the wireless mouse is becoming much more popular as it gives computer users cordless accessibility with their mouse and computer. This is not limited to desktop users, but also applicable to laptop users as it makes work easier for graphic designers than when using the conventional mouse pad. Most wireless mice communicate with the computer through Radio Frequency (RF) technology.

An RF signal is an electromagnetic wave that communication systems use to convey information through air from one point to another. It lies in the range extending from around 20kHz to 300GHz. The radio waves travel through the air at the speed of light and when it arrives at the receiver antenna, makes electrons vibrate inside it. This produces an electric current that recreates the original signal. Soon, I will be writing an article on RF signals as it concerns everyday living.

Wireless mice come in various designs, the major difference being a matter of aesthetics and handling. Another major difference in performance of wireless mice is sensitivity. The operation of the wireless mice could be optical or laser. Laser mice are by far the superior type, with higher dots per inch (dpi), it gives better sensitivity and precision. Laser mice can be used on almost all surfaces, as opposed to optical mice that are selective in the surfaces they work on. Though laser mice are superior, only few users, mostly gamers recognize the difference between the optical and laser mouse. Therefore, if you are just a regular computer user, you do not have to spend extra money on getting a laser mouse.
