I bet that sounds a little weird, like why is this little lady wishing us loads of evil today. Actually if someone had said that to me maybe last year or last week I would have flared up. If you have followed my blog from the beginning you would realize that I battled with depression a lot last year and also had a major heartbreak.

All these messed me up badly but I am so much better that the excitement of being fine and not weighed down by a million and one things is almost intoxicating, so you can imagine my reaction if someone tells me I really needed that low point, the depression and darkness. But you know what they say about not seeing something when you are in the heat of it; I guess you could say that expression applies to me.

So I don’t keep going on and on and start digressing let me get straight to the point. Depression comes at a point when you feeling down and overwhelmed by so much and somehow you feel like you can’t take nothing anymore. It feels like your world is closing in on you and there is no flicker of light at the end of tunnel. Nothing excites you, nothing makes you happy, life is like one big monotonous routine and at the extreme case you just want out of all the whole system. You don’t want to live no more.

Yours might not be as extreme as depression; it might just be you feeling discouraged, disheartened, generally down, in simple terms let’s just say you are on a real low with life.

Okay so you might just be wondering what you could probably need in this whole dark and down world of depression I have just painted. I mean it doesn’t sound so needful. Why don’t you just hear me out first?

When life is going all smooth and fun and beautiful and cheerful, we tend to take some things for granted, we tend to think we are exactly where we need to be without a single need for change or need to be better or improve on anything.

Why is this? Well everything is going fine, everything is perfect.

I am sure my Dad could say exactly what I am saying here but maybe he just wouldn’t call it depression but because I have gone through it, I feel I could definitely bring depression into it. Bad times happen so we can reevaluate things, so we could improve on things, so we could appreciate things better. Somehow, I think a newer perspective to depression could help us in dealing with it.

My father always emphasizes the impact or the importance of perspective in life. He tells me it makes a whole lot of difference in everything. Whenever he punishes me he would say it’s not punishment, its training so it makes it easier to deal with it.

So, why don’t we start looking at those low tides and down moments as pointers that we need to change something in our life, that something has to be improved upon or that we really need to use that period to appreciate what we have or had?

Personally, the tides started changing for me when I found someone to hold my hand and change my mindset that being sad and depressed because of some things you are not okay with is fine but what is not fine is to keep sitting there, sulking and not changing anything. He taught me to have a positive outlook and trust me once I got a hold of that,

I made up my mind to fight the depression with all I have got. So sometimes I feel a bit moody about something not done, or I remember something I have done wrongly in the past. Firmly I realize or I stand my ground that the past is gone, aint nothing I can do to change that but there is something I could do right now and that’s all that matters.

It made me decide to take life as it comes, to love my life, make decisions and not regret it, try new things and not be so pissed when it fails. Basically, I have learnt not to take life as a do or die affair, to love people, not to hold grudges, to just be a generally cheerful person and life has been great.

What is the point of all this I have said now? When you go through depression or bad times, realize its fine and it’s not the end of life but what you should not do is settle down there, bits of depression is fine to give you a rethink but definitely not a cup of it, because trust me there is nothing cute, funny or sweet about wallowing in depression.

I also know it’s not easy but all I can offer is a fresh perspective and I just hope that could help you get out of it faster than you would have done before you read this, I really do hope it helps.
