isnt learning to deal with bullying
on your own
a necessary part of life?
certainly its scary and uncomfortable
but
isnt taking a beating
learning to stick up for yourself
or even learning to outsmart bullies
an invaluable lesson?
a necessary life skill even?
its a test
this isnt a test you get a letter grade for....
you either pass or fail
when you fail a test like this
you resent yourself for the rest of your life
you always carry that fear around with you
maybe even pass it on to your kids
i think theres alot of miserable adults out there these days
that didnt stick up for themselves when they were younger
they live the rest of their lives bitter because of it
jealous of people who faced that fear
have you ever noticed the difference between people
who live in constant fear
and
those who don't?
people who live in fear tend to be
gossipy
judgemental
insecure
always in groups
conformists
assholes
politically correct
most of the people i think are interesting
musicians, writers, artists, athletes and everyday people
all have stories of being bullied
its not about hoping bullies go away
its about teaching kids how to deal with bullies
its a necessary life skill
your not helping a kid by fighting their battles for them
you are only post poning facing the fear
some battles you just have to fight on your own
tribal cultures
ive read about tribal cultures sending their young men
out into the wilderness for a week as a rite of passage
by young men i mean 13, 14 years old
they would have to survive alone
with nothing but their skills
of course, the entire tribe prepared them for years
before the journey........
some came back
some didn't
but, at least the tribe had the comfort in knowing that
every boy that came back was a warrior
an asset to the tribe
someone that had conquered their fear
the tribe prepared the boys for life
they didn't hope every lion they ran into in the future
would be courteous enough not to attack them
they taught them how to kill lions
they prepared them for the worst case scenario
not the best
i bet ya never heard the tribe say...
"one of these days"
"lions are going to stop being lions"
"it sure will be a fancy world then!"
If parents prepared their kids for bullying
There would be no more bullying......
its better to be a warrior in a garden
than a gardener in a war....
