Text:馃摐 Romans 6:19-23
"Therefore I will number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter; because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear..."

I t is no longer news that many people take their lives for one reason or the other. The issue of suicide is on the increase in the 21st century. When you listen to the reasons why some people took their lives, you will be amazed. Some excuses or stories are flimsy, some are pitiable while others are heart disturbing. But, for whatever reasons, men should not kill themselves for they shall answer to God on why they have to take their lives.

Here, God was the one declaring that He will destine the sinner for the sword, and that stubborn hearts he will prepare for bending down for the slaughter. One may be wondering why God is making such harsh and deadly pronouncements. Is it right for God to do this?

God is not a wicked God. He sounds warning before He embarks on any action that will hurt us. He gave reason for his proposal. "I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and choose what displeased me".

Who are those addressed here by God. They are defiants, doubters, argumentators, and people with deaf ears, hardened hearts, dissidents, and disobedient fellows. People that refuse advice but stick to doing what is evil. God has diverse ways of saving people from calamities because He is a loving God. But people who bluntly refuse to adhere to his counsel can kill themselves. Many have shed needless tears, regrets, shame and losses that could have been averted if they had listened to God's warning coming through His word, save yourself from disaster and guilt and live.
