Today is all about buildings! Barcelona is of course quite big and there are so many places to see. This is just a very small selection of some of the buildings I encountered.
There are still many old buildings in Barcelona which is perhaps also the reason why it is so charming. A classical example would be something like this:
Richly decorated walls with their little balconies and wooden window shutters (is there a better name? ;) It is a contrast to the modern buildings we have grown accustomed to. Here, there was actually an erotic museum with a young lady in a dress which would show her panties (due to a ventilator they installed under her). Quite effective to catch some tourists... Although I didn't quite get so mesmerized as to pay a visit 😅
The next example is a very interesting combination of old and new. Something that has become quite common place for a lot of European cities. An unusual but elegant way to bridge the different architectural styles and to give room to history.
Of course Barcelona is know for Antoni Gaudí, a famous architect that has shaped the streets and hearts of Barcelona to a great degree. There is of course the famous park Güell which shows his work or the Sagrada Família which has still not been completed. On the streets, however, you will also see beautiful examples of his work. There are many open spaces as well. Here there is a large courtyard where one can enjoy a coffee or eat some lunch.
If you should visit this city, you must go to a hill and have a look at the city from above. It is truly spectacular... The ocean, the sea of concrete and in the midst all of the great places of interest... You will also encounter street artists and musicians here. Do you know where these pictures were taken? ;)
