Last month, I met my friend nurdiani@nurdiani in a park in South Jakarta. There was no particular reason why we wanted to meet that day, we just met because we hadn't seen each other in a long time.

We enjoyed some fried chicken that was sold not far from the park. In the middle of our conversation, she told me that she had just returned from her hometown in Bandung district, West Java. Bandung does have quite a lot of highlands, so there are a lot of local highland coffees in Bandung district. In the past, my friend from the Pangalengan highlands brought me Lanang coffee from Mount Puntang, a type of robusta coffee roasted at a medium level.

However, this time, Nurdiani brought me a local arabica-type coffee from the Malabar plateau. Processed with a full wash, with a weight of 100 grams, and medium roasting.

THE DESTROYED FRENCH PRESS

On a camping trip, I deliberately brought coffee from Nurdiani to enjoy at the camp ground. I also happily brought a French press that I had wrapped thickly with bubble wrap to be safe. Understandably, the French press I have is not too thick.

On a journey that took about two hours by motorbike, I finally arrived. When it was time to relax and enjoy my coffee, I took out the French press that was stored in my bag. After I carefully opened the bubble wrap, I found that my french press had been broken and destroyed.

Honestly, I was shocked and a bit sad. My hopes will enjoy manual brew with French press vanished already. However, because the water was boiling and the passion about koi was still high, I finally brewed this arabica coffee with the usual method.

Two scoops of the coffee were poured into a glass cup, then I poured hot water afterwards. This is how the Malabar arabica coffee looked like after I brewed it.

NORTH MALABAR ARABICA

Grinded at a medium coarse level, North Malabar Arabica has a fresh flavour with a faint acidity. Know what's fatal? I felt that because of this haphazard brewing, I didn't get the fragrant aroma of the coffee as I should have. But, I could still get a little bit of the aroma.
It took about five minutes for all the coffee grounds to settle. While waiting for the coffee grounds to settle, I sat here and enjoyed the view first. I chatted with my friends here.

After I felt the time was right (I didn't use an exact timer) I sipped the Malabar arabica bit by bit. I felt a savoury aroma like nuts, as well as a thin fruity freshness. This 100 grams of coffee from Nurdiani will definitely be my daily ritual. I almost can't miss a day without brewing coffee. Coffee is part of my life.

I enjoy this coffee myself, because my friend really can't drink single origin coffee like this. She can only drink coffee with milk or with cream. A light, creamy type of coffee. That's my friend's favourite.

According to my friend from Bandung, Dewi Nova, Bandung has many kinds of coffee. Well... like, next time, I have to go to the highlands in Bandung to directly experience drinking coffee on the grounds, also with the pleasant ambiences of Bandung.
Maybe... sometime.
