I just remembered I forgot to pack my magazines for the trip, your sister, Jill yells as she walks by your room.
Jill, we're are taking everything we need up there. We are the only ones going on this trip, you say, Didn't you read enough of those magazines before we left? you continue to say as you return to reading a magazine yourself. You hear her walk into her room and go about packing things for the trip, but can also hear her reading.
After a few minutes of packing, she enters your room again and flips your magazines upside down, spilling all the contents of your magazines onto the floor. "Ok, we're going now," she says, pulling you with her.
You don't put up a fight and leave your room, heading down the hall to the elevators. Inside the elevator is another family, having a final, last minute conversation. The elevator begins to travel to the roof, where the landing shuttle will take you to the colony ship. The conversation starts off with a usual, Is everyone all packed?
Every person says yes and then the conversation shifts to everyone introducing themselves again, as if they have never met before. You recognize some names of people around you and introduce yourself to the new people.
You look to your left and see a woman looking out the window. You do the same and see the sea of city buildings below in the distance, the sun rising above them. The city is only partially lit up, remains of construction sites and vehicles moving around erratically. People say their last goodbyes and wish each other luck and safe travels up to the ship. The elevator begins to slow down and stop at the top.
The door opens, but the woman doesn't even look away from the window to notice. A man, who was standing next to the woman, places his hand on her shoulder, saying something and then looks out the window with her.
You should have just looked out the window,"he says in a low, sort of sad tone. The woman leans her head on the side of his and says, Hey, they are waiting on us. We should hurry up. She looks up and notices the shuttle to the ship.
As you walk over to the shuttle, you notice that the people on the other side of the window are staring at the same thing you just were: the city. The man looks over and notices the shuttle, then looks at his companion. He says something you can't hear and then they head towards the shuttle as well.
As you sit inside waiting for the shuttle to take off, you hear the others talking. The man, who was in charge of loading all of the belongings onto the shuttle, is a head of the group. He begins to explain the situation to everyone: " The reason that other shuttle wasn't here was because there was a problem with it.
The ship had to replace another shuttle, which would have made both shuttles late in taking off. The ship waited for the shuttle for a long time and couldn't wait any longer, so it took off without it. That shuttle should have been here by now.
Right now, there is a shuttle following us. I'm not sure how far behind us it is or when it will arrive. I'm probably just worrying too much. I'm sure that shuttle will arrive and we'll all be able to travel to the ship and go to the moon."
He sighed and then continued. This will be your family's part for the mission. You will be one of the first families to arrive, along with the other families you see here.
You will get to help build a colony on the moon. Once the settlement is built, you will be able to start a new life there with your families. That is, if you want to stay on the moon.
"What do you mean you're not sure if you want to stay there? your sister Jill says to you, We've been talking about this for so long. How could you not want to stay?
"Just listen to the man, Jill, you say, softly. The man continues -
"Once you get to the moon, you and your family will begin to enter the colony ship. You will enter the colony ship through a connecting tunnel that will take you through the ship to the decontamination area. You will then enter into the decontamination area and complete your decontamination.
Next, you will enter into one of the bays inside the ship and begin your habitation. If you decide to stay on the moon, you will then need to complete further briefing, review the mission plan and start building the colony.
If you decide to return to Earth, the shuttle will be ready to take you back. Before you leave, you will have the opportunity to say you're sorry and that you wish the colony project had not been started. Those will become our last words.
Seriously, Jill said while rolling her eyes, "You should be happy. This is your chance to have all of you go to the moon! It's never going to happen again. I've never told this to anyone, but I was thinking about it sometimes because my sister, Nicole tells everyone that I'm the best sister in the whole world.
I'm telling you this because I want us to be the best family in the whole world, not the best siblings. I don't want to be the best Nicole or the best Jill or the best family. I want us to be the best family, the best of everything. We can only do that if we are involved in the mission. We need to travel to the moon. It will change everything for us."
"What happened to Nicole? you ask.
"I don't know, Jill says, It was a long time ago. She just took off into the space and hasn't come back, Jill says, sadly.
"Don't be sad, you say, She'll come back eventually.
"Anyway, I'm sorry for going off topic. I'm done talking about myself. I don't even know where she is or what she's doing now. The point is that we need to stay on the moon, forever. The truth is we'll never see each other again. That's what makes it so great!
That is one of the most beautiful things I think I have ever heard," Jason, the man in charge of loading all of the belongings into the shuttle, exclaims.
Man, we really have to make better decisions about something as important as being selected for this mission. I just think that we should have done more research on this. We could have avoided all of this.
