In this organization, there is 3 project manager - Project Manager A, Project Manager B and Project Manager C. Each of them handle a project yet all 3 of there are helping each another in their projects. Each project is happening at different time in a year.
Project Manager A manages PROJECT X.
Project Manager B manages PROJECT Y.
Project Manager C manages PROJECT Z.
Sometimes, they have to work on Saturday, in which by right is their off day. So whenever they work on a Saturday, they get a replacement off day on Monday. One day, the management of the organization decided that all 3 of them should not be taking off on the same day.
Dilemma 1: Which Dumb ass would not what to take off on Monday?
In a normal organization where Saturday and Sunday is a off day, an employee get to have 2 days of rest day after 5 days of work. In this circumstances, if an employee is smart, he will definitely choose Monday as the off day to get a 2 day rest side by side. Who would want to choose Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday to be their off day. Only China Man company will do such a thing to get rid of as many Annual Leave of their employee as possible. How come? When you have 2 rest day side by side, you can plan for your 2 day 1 night getaway easily. When you have an offday on Sunday and Tuesday, or any other day, no matter what you need to utilize your Annual Leave for a stupid organization off day system. When there is a public holiday on Sunday, automatically the replacement off day is on Monday, do you see any company ask their employers to come back to work on Monday and choose their off day otherwise?
Dilemma 2: It is not fair, can't I have 2 rest days side by side as well?
Of course you can. Just make Sunday a working day.
Project Manager A would have off day on Sunday and Monday.
Project Manager B would have off day on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Project Manager C would have off day on Thursday and Friday.
Everyone would want to be Project Manager A, because that is the time they can spend time with their family
and friends. This arrangement is only for those working in a shopping mall. This decision would be even more stupid for an organization do declare Sunday as a working day to increase their operation and overhead cost.
Dilemma 3: Which day do we have meeting for decision making / alignment?
When all 3 Project Manager are helping each other in projects, basically they need to meet and align all the time. When 3 of them having off day on different day, there will be at least 3 days that they will just wait and wait and wait to have a complete team to discuss. This is just internal, what about external? 3 days no need to meet partners, suppliers and other stakeholders of the project. If the meeting is urgent, do you miss out your team mate and go ahead with the meeting? If the project is managed by you, of course you go ahead. If the project is not managed by you, what are you trying to prove? Play the other member out?
Dilemma 4: Why would I help in other projects?
Sooner or later, no one will help each other in any project. Everything is caused by Dilemma 1. As long as you want to have 2 rest day side by side, you would never turn up on other people project. Why get yourself into shit? When there is only 1 person in charge of the project and turn up on Saturday, only that person will have a replacement off day on Monday, the other 2 will still have their Saturday and Sunday off. In this case, all 3 of them would get 2 rest day side by side.
That's right, not helping each other in the organization solve the problem.
