Yes, I am not a believer in PoS. But, I want to understand it as best I can and I Realise I might be wrong about it. I would love for some smart people here to help me change my mind.
Why would I trust a network, in which miners are rewarded for new coins just by staking their own coins? What are they really risking when the very thing they are risking (ether) only has value based on market perception? If the market became pessimistic about Ethereum and the price dropped, all of a sudden the miners are no longer risking as much. In the case of a business risking dollars to gain more dollars, generally they earned those dollars by some expense of energy either through a product or service. This is not the case with mining a PoS coin.
It seems unnatural to me, and destined to fail. All wealth is derived from energy, and in the case of PoS, miners are not risking wealth, they are risking an abstraction of wealth which is, on its own, completely worthless.
