I begin with what I have, I still catch myself wishing I could become more capable before I have to face the things that would actually teach me,
I begin with what I have, sometimes I mistake the discomfort of being inexperienced as the proof that I should wait until I feel much more certain,
I begin with what I have, I know there are parts of me that would rather imagine being ready than endure the embarrassment of discovering who I really am,
I begin with what I have, can I let myself be seen by my own eyes as someone still learning without immediately trying to become someone,
I begin with what I have, maybe readiness is not the absence of uncertainty but the willingness to keep meeting what I have not mastered yet…

I make room for another answer, I feel the resistance that arises when the result contradicts the conclusion I had already formed,
I make room for another answer, I sometimes defend an idea simply because changing it would mean admitting that I spent time going in the wrong direction,
I make room for another answer, there is a particular kind of humility in realizing that being wrong can still leave something useful information behind,
I make room for another answer, can I let the discovery matter more than the comfort of having been correct in one set of direction,
I make room for another answer, what unsettles me at first can become the opening through which the better idea finally enters…

I have stopped correcting so hastily, I notice how often my first reaction is to fix whatever makes me uncomfortable before I have understood why it appeared,
I have stopped correcting so hastily, some mistakes start to look different when I give myself enough time to see what they reveal, rather than what they ruin at first glance,
I have stopped correcting so hastily, I feel less desperate to make everything look resolved because I am beginning to trust what unfinished things can still show me,
I have stopped correcting so hastily, can I sit with something imperfect long enough to learn from it before deciding what needs saving,
I have stopped correcting so hastily, the work becomes less like something I must control and more like something I am finally willing to let unfold…

I carry forward what I’ve learned, I’ve realized that not every challenging attempt needs to be completed to have a lasting impact on my work,
I carry forward what I’ve learned, some failures will resurface but everything will remain useful long after their original disappointment has faded from the surface,
I carry forward what I’ve learned, I can feel myself becoming less afraid of beginning again because I no longer believe every beginning has to guarantee an ending,
I carry forward what I’ve learned, can I let an unsuccessful attempt be part of my story without having to make it sufficient afterward,
I carry forward what I’ve learned, perhaps the value of what happened is not always what it produced, but what it quietly taught my hands to notice…

Watchwords:
Someone still learning
Another answer can enter
Being wrong can still leave
Something imperfect long enough
Taught my hands to notice
