Recently a great steemian said Vote selling is like prostitituion. What is your view on vote selling ? ?

Pretty sure that comment was made by fulltimegeek.

I think that the Steem blockchain, which is still only two years old, is like a child, growing and changing rapidly.

The Steem economy looks very different to what it was a year ago, when bid-bots and vote selling were rare (or hidden on the black-market). However there were still problems in those days. The trending page was typically full of the same faces, with many users organised into voting rings and exchanging votes with each other (even if this is perhaps a natural phenomena on a social network system).

The arrival of the bid-bots gave new users the chance to have a little more visibility, which was actually pretty helpful. But it also brought the opportunity for people with lots of SP to withdraw more fully from "proof of brain" and create a passive income by selling their SP to bots through delegation. In my view the scale of bid-botting, now at 30% + of the reward pool, has changed the Steem economy for the worse.

On the plus side, there is now lots of private development around the blockchain and lots of new Apps (dApps?) which did not exist a year ago. Established platforms like DTube, DLive and Utopian, as well as many newer ones like tasteem, steemhunt, and musing give redfish and minnows the opportunity to gain significant payouts ($100STU+) by applying the proof of brain concept. This kind of opportunity was very hard to come by a year ago.

So while the bid-bots haven't been a positive change for me, the dApp change has.

Looking forward a year, there could be lots more positive change: more dApps are coming, but more importantly so are SMTs. SMTs could bring a whole range of new Steem economies, including external investment, sponsorship, even advertising. I would not worry too much about the vote-buying. I expect the child to grow again in the next year with a whole new set of problems and opportunities!!!
