Do you think there is a huge imbalance between content creators and content consumers in terms of their share from the reward pool? do you think this is right or should there be some adjustments?
The issue that is constantly raised, whether it would be best to move from 75/25 creation/curation to 50/50 is not actually about balance or fairness between creators and curators.
The question arises because it is possible for Steem Power holders to gain a much higher return than the "25% of upvote" average provided by curation by using passive investment schemes such as delegation to bid-bots.
For example if a bid-bot owner is willing to pay "60% of upvote" for Steem Power delegations then it is very attractive for large Steem Power holders to simply delegate out all their Steem Power, rather than voting on content.
What this has led to is a situation where bid-bots now control 40% of all Steem voting, with this level increasing over time.
Thus the concern is the imbalance between passive investors (those delegating to bid-bots) getting say "60% of upvote" and active curators who receive "25% of upvote" at best. The concerns are raised by active curators who want to continue to support creators but feel that they are losing out to passive investors and by serious amounts of money.
If something isn't done to fix the situation then soon there will be no active curators. Which means, outside of the dApps (many of which have delegated stake from Steemit Inc) there will be no upvotes available for creators at all, or very little. All votes (outside of dApps) will end up being purchased.
So I would agree that some kind of adjustment is necessary. However what the adjustment should be is difficult and the source of much argument.
Personally I would be in favour of an optional curation level setting which would allow each user or dApp to set the curation on posts to their desired level. This would prevent any curation change from breaking those dApps that currently work really well, whilst alleviating some of the problems in the wider Steem economy.
I would also move away from the non-linear curation model that we currently use, to something which ignores the impact of when you vote on a post. This is because I believe there should be no reward for "finding content". Everyone knows where the content is.
This solution might result in a "race to the bottom", so perhaps a maximum setting of 50% curation would be appropriate as a first trial.
