Yes you can! It is a phrase that I have not only heard a lot, but I have started to say it very often.
The reason, my Yoga teacher and companion in my Sunday adventures in the Avila, the mountain that borders the north of the city of Caracas, Venezuela, constantly repeats the phrase ¡Si se puede! ... especially when she sees me exhausted with the desire to throw in the towel. At that moment he just says ¡si se puede! si se puede! ... it seems like a mantra.
In the movie Happy Feet there is a scene where the main penguin Mumble accompanied by other somewhat funny penguins, face a terrible snowstorm. In that scene one of his phrases apart from "You can see, you can feel, penguins are present! It's the phrase ¡si se puede, si se puede! ... and if they could, they made it through the storm.
A mantra is a constant and monotonous repetition of an idea, and that's what it's all about. Si se puede is a phrase that is repeated so many times that it becomes a reality. I have lived it in the last few months.
Si se puede, it has become my favorite phrase. It gives me that extra push when I don't want to or feel like I can't. It's like a drink of fresh water. It's like a drink of fresh water that energizes, revitalizes and moves me forward.
How it has become my favorite phrase is very simple. I started climbing the Avila for health reasons. No, I am not fat, on the contrary my weight is bordering on the lower limit for my height. In short, I need to gain weight.
Paradoxically, the doctor ordered me to exercise, because it has many benefits that redound to my well-being:
Of course I am not talking about impact exercises. The exercises I do are yoga and walking on the Avila. Really low impact, but great benefits to my body.
At the beginning every time I was faced with a steep exercise or walk, I wanted to give up and at that precise moment my yoga teacher would enter with the phrase "Yes you can do it" ... automatically my brain would abandon the idea, and I would repeat "just one more step" ... and so I would reach the goal.
I personally think it is an empowering word. It fills us with energy and motivation, so the next time you want to give up on something, just repeat it ad nauseam "Si se puede"!
