NOW IN ENGLISH
She is a worthy reference to the "Always Ready" motto the Boy Scouts use at their meetings. She is 76 years old, lives alone and is my aunt!
And I say that with pride, because this woman with wrinkled hands, gray hair, contagious smile and helpful attitude is a worthy reference in the whole family.
How has she managed to reach the age of 76 without taking any medication, being able to walk long distances, being active, and having a positive attitude towards life, are aspects that any younger person would like to have and that I have proposed to unveil in this post.
Positive attitude towards life
It was one of her first answers and then she remembered that more than 30 years ago she was diagnosed with arthritis. She could not move her fingers, but that did not stop her. She continued to work as a seamstress, continued to cook for her children. Her only thought was to remain active, hopeful and optimistic, for that is all she could do. Although some doctors told her that there was no cure, she did not believe it and continued looking for help, until one day she met an angel dressed in a white coat. That doctor and the medicines he prescribed helped her heal. She never had joint problems again.
In short my aunt never accepts the negative things people may say about her. She clings with an unwavering will to her belief that life is a beautiful place to live.
Continuous learning
Her son lives in Spain and she has not seen him for more than 15 years. A little less than two years ago, her son gave her a smart phone. The intention: to be able to make video calls. You can imagine my aunt's joy when she received her gift and what it implied: to be able to see her son and grandchildren through the screen. It was a gift that went beyond the physical, but how could a woman in her 70s learn to use a smart phone, well, in the middle of the pandemic, she took public transportation and knocked on the door of my apartment.
Show me Tibi, was all she said. He spent the next three days literally playing with the cell phone. By the time he returned home he knew how to use Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp. She could send text messages, voice messages, send tags and most importantly make video calls. In conclusion her age did not limit her. She is a continuous learner of life and she does it with enthusiasm.
Always ready
She always has enthusiasm and I love that about her. She never says no to any invitation. She has been my photo model, bowled, gone to the beach, camped in the woods, accompanied me on walks around town. In short she is always ready for any opportunity to enjoy life.
Service comes first
She is a woman who has always helped others. In her youth, her house was a lodging stop for all the relatives who had to travel to the capital of Venezuela and more than once her house became a fixed residence for a nephew, brother, cousin, friend, etc. Her house was always open for anyone who needed it and there was always a plate of food on the table for any visitor.
She is also a very active woman in her church and is an integral part of the group of cooks, who lovingly prepare food to give to the neediest people in her community.
I make it myself
She doesn't wait to be made, she does it herself. When she visits me, she goes straight into the kitchen to prepare food. The truth is that I am happy in those moments, because she really enjoys it when we tell her how delicious her food has turned out. In short, even though she is 76 years old, she loves to do things by herself.
Her apartment is clean, tidy and has beautiful plants. She does everything by herself. She likes to spend the day cleaning, tidying and taking care of her plants.
God comes first
Even though I have left this point last, it happens to be first in her life. She has a very intimate relationship with God. She talks to him every day, when she wakes up, when she goes to sleep and at meals.
For her, giving thanks for life, for food, for the people around her is an integral part of her being. God is her beginning, her end and her everything. In short, she is in the middle of Sandwich, which represents God.
Now you know why I have so much admiration for this woman who does not stay in bed waiting for help. She gets up and does it, it's the only thing she knows she has to do.
Thank you @emiliorios for motivating me to talk about her in your Initiative: The Logevity Revolution, because she is a woman who has become my reference for when I reach old age.
