to be honest, it is one of the most common questions people ask me when it comes to whale behaviour, once they find out what I do for work. There are lots of theories and ideas as to why they decide to leap out of the water in this remarkable display of aerobatics.
However, I believe most of these theories are correct and that there are many reasons as to why they breach and each breach events probably have different reasons as to why as well. Either way, sometimes its just worth sitting back and appreciating this amazing sight rather than questioning why they do such things.
