You never know what to expect when you are interacting with the apex predators of the ocean. Especially, when that encounter is in a small zodiac vessel in the cold waters surrounded the Antarctic Peninsula. This little encounter occurred in December, 2019 where a pod of small Type B orca were spotted and curiously circled our group of zodiacs.

This large male that I have come to call Frank, which is not his official name.. not that I think anyone really has the right to officially name any wild orca... For me though, I will always know this big guy as Frank. Well, Frank had the habit of following me around in my zodiac, which was amazing! If I turned on my engine and started to move away or in any direction, he would turn and then happen to be right behind me. I hope I made a new friend that day and hope to see him again soon.
