Fall comes in gradually. I've posted some peak photos from higher elevations but haven't posted any from my local lake. This point extending into the lake is a favorite fall photograph but it is just now starting to change.
The top of the ridge is changing but the base of the mountains are still mostly green.
A distant peak is visible in the saddle between two mountains rising above the lake. I think the mountain in the distance is Mount Horrid but have never really been able to figure it out on a map. Again there is some color along the ridgeline. The mix of trees also determines the color. In this photo there are maples, oaks, and birch down low, then a band of pines then mostly maples near the top that are changing colors.
Views like this are common right now. One pretty maple showing its colors in an otherwise green forest. While a perfect reflection is always the goal, I don't mind a wave action like in this photo. You get smudges of color kind of an impressionist painting effect.
My normal morning photo illustrates the difficulty of fall colors photography - the lighting! You need some sunlight to show the colors and in this case make the reflections. With the shorter days and overcast that is common in the fall, you have to catch the right conditions for the perfect shot.
This shot will be stunning in a few weeks 🤞
All these photos were taken along the shores of Lake Dunmore in Addison County, Vermont. All photos are taken by me (or my wife 😊).
