Crossing around in the Antarctic peninsula has its many advantages, as the vessel does not need to be stopped and in excursion mode in order to encounter wildlife & stunning views. Many times whilst enjoying lunch or dinner or even breakfast for that matter and to look up out the window and see a humpback only a few meters from the vessel was a common sight. For me it was hard to actually focus on talking to guests to get to know them, as I was always on the scan for marine mammals, staring out the window.
I don’t think many guests minded that much - especially, 8 times out of 10 I would point and spot a whale, which the entire table then got to sit and watch a graceful giant slowly cruise beside - no doubt foraging in the waters enjoying his/her own meal.
