There is something special about observing a 30+ tonne animal launching itself into the air before crashing back into the water. The fact that an animal this large has the capability of doing it but at times repeating the behaviour again and again.
The great thing about not only being able to observe such a wondrous sight but it does allow you the opportunity to get your camera out and attempt to capture the moment. I was lucky enough to be in such a situation only a few months ago whilst I was working on the Antarctic Peninsula. One humpback whale in particular blessed me with this opportunity and I believe I was lucky enough to get a few nice captures.
Until the next time I am able to be in such a remote and beautiful place to observe these moments and even attempt to take a photo, which I hope will truly capitulate what Antarctica is... I have photos like this to admire.
