Paulet Island is quite an extraordinary place in Antarctic Sound, which during the summer time is home to over 100,000 breeding pairs of Adelie penguins. These adorable little brush tail species of penguins build little nests made out of small stones. The last time I was lucky enough to stand on this island was in January, 2020 where I walked up to a small lockout and sat down to absorb the beauty of that place. This is due to the fact that I knew I wouldn't be coming back to this place for quite some time and wanted to just have a moment.
It wasn't long after I was there that I heard the footsteps of a penguin approaching me. I looked over my shoulder and an Adelie penguin was standing there over the top of a rather than impressive nest of stones. He continued to look around and lower his head to over some of the stones around before just staring at me for a brief moment. It wasn't too long after this he turned around and walked back down towards the rest of the breeding colony. I must say it was a lovely way to spend my last moment on Paulet Island for the season.
