Waking up near the Antarctic circle is always impressive - let along on Christmas Day. Everyone needs to experience a white Christmas at least once in their lifetime and I have had the pleasure of having quite a few over the years in my travels BUT to have this type of White Christmas is something different.

Here we are south of the circle surrounded by sea ice and large tabular ice bergs, which means for quite the view and photo opportunities. You can see the greenish slush ice that is in the foreground, which is the sea ice breaking down and releasing all the algae that have been attached underneath the sea ice over the winter months. In the background, there is a tabular ice berg that is melting and breaking apart in the warmth of the summer season.

I love this place!!!
