Have you ever started with one story idea, but it morphs into something different? Or something just doesn't feel right, so you move on to another idea in your head?

The latter happened to me this morning, and it worked out beautifully. After my husband left for work, instead of going back to sleep like I'm used to doing, I made my coffee, grabbed my notebook, and buckled down to write while the little human slept.

Except....I had nothing. I looked at the little bit of scribble that I'd written yesterday, and absolutely nothing spoke to me.

Okay, cool. Let's brainstorm a bit. So, underneath yesterday's scribble I wrote "What is my story about?"

Nothing. Zip. Nada. My brain provided zero input.

It instead kept pulling me to an idea that my husband had given me months ago for a children's story, loosely based on our daughter's favorite stuffed animal.

It's like my brain was saying, "Look, girl, I got nothing for you on this. But here, I've got everything you need for this story."

I thought, well, what about the Write Club prompt from tanglebranch@tanglebranch?

"Well, duh, Connie, of course I have an idea for that."

So, I flipped to a blank page and started writing. Y'all, my brain was serious about what it had for me. Next thing I knew I had 4 full handwritten pages of notes, including the entire plot from beginning to end.

If you feel stuck because an idea you have isn't working out, I encourage you not to worry. It'll happen, one way or another, and soon your pen will flow with the story that is meant to be told.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go put my daughter's diapers onto the next wash cycle.

Write well and Steem on!
