Ellie #2 complete

I’ve been hard at work this past week working on the 2nd installment in the Ellie series, “Ellie and the Busy Beehive”. It took a lot of brainstorming to figure out how to work an obvious metaphor into this story (see jordanlesich@jordanlesich’s Write Club prompt), but I think I figured it out. I finished the first draft a couple of days ago and submitted it to my buddies at The Writers’ Block for critique. I’m really excited that this series is continuing, and I can’t wait to see what the third Write Club prompt will be so I can start working on the next one!

I feel I should mention this…

In my last update post I said that I would be posting the first Ellie story, “Ellie Finds a Friend”, here for you all to read. But, the more I thought about it, the more I realized it would be better that I didn’t.

Why? Many publishers won’t take on previously published works (yes, Steem counts as publishing). And the ones that do offer less royalties than if it was unpublished.

I want to see Ellie the Elegant Elephant illustrated and published. I want to see her in libraries, bookstores, and the hands of children. I want to have every possible publishing opportunity available to me when it comes time to send out submissions.

Never fear! I’ll still post regular updates in Ellie the Elegant Elephant’s journey. I may even share a short excerpt or two. I just won’t be posting the stories in their entirety. I’m sure many of you will understand.

Any other projects?

Why yes, thanks for asking! I’m working on a couple of things. First is a folk tale rewrite, written from the POV of someone other than the main character. This is a workout exercise for our writer’s workout at TWB, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. I chose The Boy Who Cried Wolf, but I’m writing from the POV of the wolf. It’s really turning out rather nice, and after it’s been critiqued and polished, I will be posting it here on Steem.

The other project I’m working on is a new and challenging venture for me. I am writing a sonnet. Well, let me rephrase that. I have written a sonnet. But out of 14 lines, only ONE meets the required rhythm and meter. I’ve definitely got my work cut out for me with this one, but I’m excited about it. It’s gonna be amazing once it’s done.

I almost forgot!

If you haven’t yet read my story, “The Watch” that I wrote for gmuxx@gmuxx’s Art Prompt Writing Contest, you definitely should. Not only did the story get upvoted by the curie@curie team, but it also won the contest, and it was curated by the Steemhouse Fiction Trail. I'm so honored to have received so much attention for that story.

Well, that's all of the updates I have for you this time! Thanks for reading!
