The rocks at Table Mountain have been dated at roughly 600 million years old. The mountain itself is estimated to be 240 million years old. This makes it one of the oldest mountains in the world.
The flat top of Table Mountain is approximately 3 km | 2 mi across.
Table Mountain’s high point is marked by Maclear’s Beacon, which is a stone cairn on the eastern end of the mountain built in 1844.

Table Mountain sees approximately 800,000 visitors per year.
At least 1 wedding is performed at the top of the mountain every week.
The 1st recorded ascent of Table Mountain was in 1503 by Portugese explorer Admiral Antonio de Saldanha. De Saldanha climbed Table Mountain via the Platteklip Gorge. He named the mountain Taboa do Cabo and carved a cross at Lion’s Head
From 1896 to 1907, five dams were built near Table Mountain to supply water to Cape Town.

When one looks east and southeast the Indian Ocean can be seen in the distance, past Seekooivlei and Sandvlei which are clear to see in the picture below.

On Table Mountain alone there are more than 2,200 different plant species. Many of these plants are endemic to Table Mountain and can be found nowhere else in the world.
Table Mountain National Park has the richest floristic site in the world. The flora on Table Mountain is very different, all over the mountain. The western side receives more direct sunlight throughout the day and it is a dryer side of the mountain, producing a smaller shrub-like vegetation. The eastern side of Table Mountain is shaded throughout the day and has a wetter terrain, with streamlets, waterfalls, and seeps. This side of the mountain produces an indigenous forest. Most of this forest was planted back in the day when wood was needed for construction. ,
