The Hard Way

She had this quiet beauty that struck you when you looked at her-soft eyes, slender figure and always looking like she had just stepped out of a magazine.

Curator's comment :

daeze-winnie writes a wistfully nostalgic CNF about her friend who threw caution to the wind and ended up "counting gain and loss at the local market" in a bid to care for her family. Well structured, nicely presented tearjerker.

A Bicycle Gamble

The field was empty except for a few guys playing football in the distance. Perhaps the afternoon sunlight made everything glow golden and possible. Precious had wheeled the bike over from wherever she'd been riding, her cheeks were still flushed. She looked alive in a manner that I envied.

Curator's comment :

Abuzayd turns in a stirring story about the first time he learned to ride a bike. He was twenty years old, and a bit sheepish about being the wrong age for such a basic skill. He takes us on that ride and we feel the exhilaration as the bike picks up speed. We also feel the tumble when the inevitable crash occurs. This story captures a vivid moment in the author's life and allows us to share his emotion.

The sun gently leaned toward its nest, casting long shadows across the compound through my window and into my room. I sat on my couch, legs crossed, the couch pillow on my legs, and a plate of noodles placed on the pillow. It's steam dancing across my face.

Curator's comment :

Zerah's story describes a struggle with her conscience. She receives money in her account that does not belong to her. As is often the case in this author's stories, she seeks advice from her neighbor, the ever-wise Mama Chinedu. The introduction of this voice in the story is an effective writing tool. Talking the problem over with this objective party allows the author to give another perspective to her narrative. An excellent story.

To take a leaf out of someone's book

meaning:

to imitate or follow someone's example, especially when they have been successful in a particular area. It implies learning from their actions and applying their methods to achieve similar results.

Have you ever found yourself admiring someone's strategy in business, sports, or just in general life? Have you ever emulated someone as a result of that admiration, and what were the consequences of your actions?

Tell us about it! And remember to integrate storytelling elements like characters, scene setting, dialogue and action to bring your story to life!

• Write a real-life story with the creative elements of fiction, like characters, dialogue, scene setting and a story conflict.

• Stories must be written in English. If you've translated the post, it's best to add the original version below the translation. Do not write mixed language paragraphs.
