Twenty-four years ago today my life took a drastic change in direction. I had recently moved back to the United States for further training to advance my career. Then the horrific attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 happened and I did something I had never considered in my life. I called an Army recruiter and joined the Army Reserves as an officer. I spent twenty years serving at home and abroad, mostly as in reserves but some active duty as well.
I was able to save a lot of lives the way and that really made it worth while!

Now fast forward twenty-four years to today. First off, I'm not a political guy and get sick of constant politics. I have better things to worry about. But the last few years the world has been becoming such a mess. Day by day it seems to becoming less and less stable.
In the US yesterday we saw the political assassination of Charlie Kirk, an conservative activist murdered due to hatred and failure to understand the opinion of another. Not only was he denied his right to free speech, but his right to life. It also took a father from young children. It really was a senseless act of hatred carried out the day before the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks... I don't care what side of the ideology you fall on, we're all Americans. The hatred and division in our nation needs to calm down, just my humble opinion.

Yesterday Russia fired off some 20 drones into Poland, a member on NATO. All promptly were shot down by NATO air defenses of several NATO nations. If one of those drones had hit a populations center or military installation it could have easily sparked World War 3. I think Putin is testing the waters to see what he can get away with and the responses to expect. He may have been hoping to see how quick the response would be on the part of NATO. But just the fact that he is even pushing those buttons should terrify us all. He may be planning a full fledged attack on NATO.
And then there is the prospect of China taking Taiwan by military action. They have been practicing the takeover with military drills for some time now, the only question that remains is when will the trigger be pulled? They may be hoping for Putin to get into a conflict with NATO making it much less easy for NATO to come to the aid of Taiwan. However, China wants Taiwan back as part of their nation whether they like it or not. Another potential start to World War 3...
The Middle East is another whole disaster, but I'm done ranting for today.
I know this is a departure from my usual content, but things are starting to get more than just a little spooky out there in the world. My hope is that all will work out without more conflict, but as a realist I know that rarely happens. At any rate, I hope tomorrow will be a brighter day for the world that the last couple have been.
