Day one on the job as Community Lead and I barely spit out a thread by EOD EST, but that's okay- I'm organizing systems to improve. I delved into the key people in Gladwell's Law of the Few, which I enjoyed writing about.
After creating a mock-up job description for myself, I hope to hit all the points in the JD to effectively maximize the investment the project staked in my participation.
Here's some knowledge I synthesized today.
Connectors
are a key part of the Few. They build communities well cuz of their wide social networks. They bring people together. Funnily enough, one man I met through another and took pictures for, called me a 'dot connector' and that stuck with me.
I feel as though I have an ability to connect, but only because I do like meeting others. They might prove their unsavoriness, sure, but the small joy comes from simply having met another on their own journey, chasing what they believe in.
Fortunately for me, some are quite skilled in their pursuits, so I especially like to take notes from the people I find to be successful in their endeavors. You could even cook a burger especially well, I'd want to know, how exactly.
Salesmen
are persuasive influencers. Their function is the pitch. In that way, Rhett Mankind gave all of web3 a mean pitch about what it means to create a community. Isn't it funny how I wanted to work at the outlet this project's featured on, but instead, I'm working in the project that got featured?
Never know what you're gonna get. Rhett sold me a dream- and I've yet to really cash in my winnings. And I thought I had contagious enthusiasm...
Mavens
are the knowledge hubs of the community. In that regard, I believe HIVE is full of 'em. I'm not aware of the entire community, but the platform is host to some of the savviest supercoders I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. It might need more salesmen if it wants to tap into the 'tipping point' phenomenon, but I see progress and potential.
That's a bit of what I broke down here.
Word of Mouth
is what I'll take a crack at tomorrow. Essentially, I think I can tap into the phenomenon to help the message about Rhett's performance art penetrate the attention economy saddled with nonsense.
It's already off to a riproaring start.
